Last week out great President, President Obama declared in his first State of the Union address that its time for America to finally repeal the law that denies openly gay Americans the right to serve in the country that they love. A new Gallup poll shows that 69% of Americans support allowing gays and lesbians to serve in the military. This is a huge amount of Americans that believe this, and it is showing how much America is changing. Today there are 25 countries that are allowing gays to openly serve in their armed forces, this includes are neighbor to the north Canada. Even one of are biggest friends the British military has been allowing gays to serve in there military since 2000. So if they are allowing this why haven’t we done this yet? But there is a lot of reason why people are against this policy, one of the reason why I feel like that this could become a problem is the safely of the openly gay member of the armed force. I have been in the military in the past and I know that if can be very difficult for someone with different view points then your high ranking officers, they are going to use any advantage they can to get to you and they to break you. They are not going to hind anything from the whole rest of the kids who are in training with them. I think that it would make training even more difficult for the kids who are openly gay, and I personal believe that this is going to be unfair to them. I would rather see them keep this inside for there own safely. But this is also very difficult this to think about because it is 2010 and it is time for also to get rid of all labels that could prevent someone from following there dreams. So why should someone who is perfectly healthy be able to serve there country? I think that the Don’t ask, Don’t tell policy is actually the perfect way to go about this problem in America. I want openly gay Americans to be able to follow there dreams but I want them to make sure that they are going to be safe during there time that they are serving there country so I am in the middle to keep things the way it is.

No Way
One of the hottest issues in the world right now is the hot political debate about if they should lift the “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” policy. For the most part this a political lines battle taking places between liberals and conservatives, the liberals wish to allow gays to openly service in the armed forces and conservatives wishing to keep the current “ Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and even ban gays from serving in the military. What is bothering me the most is that the people who are saying that we should lift the policy has either no military experience or during there whole time serving in the military they have been able to have the privileged of serving has a commissioned officer. This means that they get to reside in single rooms. Never getting the input of enlisted member is wrong because they should have the right to give there optional. These are the people who have to share roughly 300 square foot, four-man rooms. I have read many blogs from ex soldiers who have given accounts of coming back to there barracks and seeing things that made them very uncomfortable. A poll done by Military times found that up to 23% of the troops say they would not re-enlist if DADT is repealed. That a lot of members that the military would lose and you have to wonder if there would be that many homosexual that would enlist if DADT is repealed. Straight service personnel have also came out to say that they do not feel comfortable showering with homosexual and bisexuals. Another problem that you have to worry about is conservative parents and if they would allow their children into a “gay military” these people have very strong views about this subject so it would be very scary to think about what would happened if they don’t agree with a view about there military, and keep in mind that these are the kids that usually make up a large part of the military so a recruiting shortage is a major problem that we should keep in mind. We are fighting two wars right now and that is already making recruiting very difficult so what the results of having a openly gay military have on America during these trying time?

Yes they should!!
Why shouldn’t someone who is perfectly healthy and who wants to serve there country get the right to enlisted in the United States Military? As of right now they can do this but there is a “don’t ask don’t tell” policy which I believe is total junk! The United States are in trouble right now with a recruiting shortages that is affecting every brunch of service, if they remove the ban then more young adults will get the change to enlist. Because of the ban the United States has had to let go of some 13,000 troops, this is just a small problem for the United States, it’s a huge problem. In a public opinion poll that was done in the past year shows that sixty-nine percent of adults are in favor of allowing open homosexuals to enlisted in the military, these numbers are up from forty-three percent in 1993. Even people who say that they are conservatives are supporting gays serving in the military. Even top military officer are in favor of letting openly homosexual to service in the military. Adm. Mike Mullen’s made the strongest statement by any member of the military when he said that yes they should be allow to service in the military. During his meeting with the Senate Armed Service Committee that he is deeply trouble by a policy that force people to” lie about who they are in order to defend their citizens.” He also that he believes that changing the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy is going to be rough but that he believes that the military can handle it. Maybe the true problem with in the military isn’t letting homosexual personal service in the military but it’s the heterosexual service members and military leadership not adapting to the new way of the world. There have been many research and policy studies that state that the Pentagon is wrong. Even the first Iraq war veteran ever elected to Congress, is launching a campaign to get Don’t ask don’t tell removed from the military. This is just another explain of how the military is changing and how after just a few months no one would even care if there was openly homosexual in the military, that is why I feel that it is time to make the change.

Thesis
Don’t ask don’t tell! This is something that I always heard during my military career; from the second I started my enlistment process. Now our president of the United State, President Obama would like to openly allow homosexuals to enlist in the military. This is something on one hand that I feel is very over do and it’s about time for this to happened. But on the other hand I am very much afraid of what could happened to these young kids if they are openly homosexual in the military and I fear for there safety! This is why I don’t think that they should be allowed to enlist in the military openly. I know what the military is like and I know that these kids will not get a fair opportunely to serve there country.
